EIGHT {8} SIMPLE RULES FOR DATING MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER: ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about Paul Hennessy's angst-ridden life as a father to two teenage daughters. Paul makes various preparations for Christmas, hoping that this year will be the “best Christmas ever.” Paul is also determined to beat the Doyles in the neighborhood’s annual outdoor Christmas lighting competition, despite the Doyles’ usually lavish presentation. He also promises that he will get the family better presents, as his offerings last year were lackluster. Kerry finds a stray dog wandering around the streets and takes him home, much to Paul’s displeasure. He tells Kerry that they can’t take care of the dog and must bring him to the animal shelter. Kerry is highly upset at this development. Meanwhile, the usual soloist at Cate’s church choir suffers an accident, and so Cate is granted the solo instead, making her very excited. Paul decides to write an article for his column asking his readers to adopt pets from shelters as a way of apologizing to Kerry. However, Kerry asks him and the rest of the family to help her with a pet adoption drive at the local mall on Christmas Eve, but Paul insists that they go see Cate perform her solo at the church. However, Cate gets extremely nervous about them being there and asks them not to attend. Bridget obsesses over what to get Kyle for Christmas, especially when she spies him coming out of a jewelry store at the mall. Paul goes down to help Kerry with her pet drive and soon Bridget, Rory, and Kyle join them. They prove to be successful, getting all of the pets adopted except one: the dog that Kerry found, which is brought back to the animal shelter, leaving Kerry somewhat saddened. The family stops by the church on the way back to hear Cate perform her solo for “Silent Night.” They get home and Cate is glad they came. The kids convince Paul to open some of their presents early, and Rory is happy to receive a chemistry set as a gift. For Bridget and Kerry, Paul has something special prepared: Kyle enters carrying the dog Kerry found, and she is overjoyed to receive the dog as a present. The Doyles’s lights malfunction and blow out, leaving them ineligible for the competition, pleasing Paul. However, Bridget is frustrated to learn that Kyle got her “gourmet soap” as a Christmas present. Includes commercials.
