PERRY COMO CHRISTMAS SPECIAL, THE (CHRISTMAS IN SAN ANTONIO (TV)

Summary

A Christmas special featuring the musical stylings of Perry Como and guests in San Antonio, Texas. The program opens with Perry singing “Joy to the World,” backed by the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra and the Master Singers. Next, Perry offers opening remarks before singing “Deep in the Heart of Texas” as a tribute to the show taking place in San Antonio. Next, Perry and guest Angie Dickinson stroll through San Antonio’s River Walk, with Angie accidentally causing a charity-seeking Santa to fall into the water. Then, Perry and Angie perform a duet, “Sing.” Then, Perry introduces the Hispanic Woman of the Year, singer Julia Migenes-Johnson who performs “Gypsy Song” from the opera “Carmen.” Afterward, Perry and Angie applaud Julia’s performance before she shows them how to belt it out by thinking “Spanish thoughts.” Next, Perry gives a brief tour of San Antonio, including a visit to the Alamo. He talks about how the city is a major training ground for the military, whose bands — the Fifth Army Band and the United States Air Force Band of the West -- back Perry for “Do You Hear What I Hear?” Then, Perry goes to a “Blessing of the Pets” ceremony at the San Jose Mission, where he sings “Bless the Beasts and the Children.” Next, Perry discusses mariachi music and how it can bring joy to a traditional Christmas mass. Then, Perry sings “Ave Maria” at church, joined by Julia. Next, Perry and Angie meet up with Mayor Henry Cisneros for a Texas-style barbecue, where Angie realizes that Henry was the Santa-suit wearing man that she caused to fall into the River Walk waters. The group is then joined by country star George Strait, who sings “When It’s Christmas Time in Texas.” Afterward, the mayor sings “Feliz Navidad” before Perry sings the Italian version and Julia the French version. They all join to sing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” in English. Then, Perry and Angie ride up the river as part of the Los Posadas festival before Perry and Angie retell the nativity story. Next, Julia sings “Silent Night,” later joined by Perry. Later, backed by the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra and the Master Singers, Perry sings “We Need a Little Christmas.” Next, Julia sings “Angels We Have Heard on High.” Then, Perry sings “White Christmas” and joins the symphony on “O Come All Ye Faithful.” Finally, Perry thanks his guests before he concludes with “O Holy Night.” Commercials deleted.
