DREW CAREY SHOW, THE: DREW ANSWERS THE BELLE (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedies starring stand-up comedian Drew Carey as a single guy who attempts to juggle his romantic endeavors and his menial job at a Cleveland department store, while still maintaining his sense of humor. Drew's wedding deadline is coming up soon and he is having little luck finding a potential bride. Lewis and Oswald come up with a solution: they put Drew's photograph, phone number, and address on thousands of beer bottles as an advertisement. Soon Drew receives phone messages from many women respondents, although none of them sound particularly encouraging. A number of women arrive at Drew's house and Lewis and Oswald try to sort them out. Drew wants no part of any of the "nutjobs" in his house until he receives a phone call from a New Orleans woman named Lily. He and Lily talk for hours, and they appear to take a liking to each other. Upon hanging up, Drew immediately decides to take a road trip to New Orleans to see her, bringing along Lewis, Oswald, and Kellie (albeit under false pretenses so that they could use her car). Once they reveal the truth, Kellie believes the entire scheme is ridiculous but Drew convinces her to go along with them. Drew surprises Lily on her job; she works as a tour guide for a 19th-Century historical manor, wearing period dress. She is surprised by Drew's arrival, but glad to see him. She reveals to Kellie that she is 32 years old and was a software engineer temporarily working as a tour guide since her employer went out of business. Kellie, feeling dejected, excuses herself to leave Drew and Lily alone. Soon the two of them are in bed together and enjoying each other's company. They lament that they will not be able to see each other very often due to the distance between Cleveland and New Orleans and their busy schedules. Lily proposes that Drew take time off of work to move in with her for a time and he seems to like the idea. He returns to Lewis, Oswald, and Kellie, and reveals his intention to move in with Lily. Already he is having second thoughts about it and Kellie advises against it. After thinking it over for a while, Drew returns to Lily and tells her that he can't go through with it. She believes that Drew is so used to disappointment that he is afraid of being happy. He leaves but immediately changes his mind and returns to bring her to Cleveland with him, hoping to prove her wrong. Includes commercials.
