COSBY: THE AWFUL TRUTH (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about Hilton Lucas, who finds himself retired after his job at the airport is eliminated.
Del has a new girlfriend, Karen, and is nervous about introducing her to Jurnee. Karen arrives and soon meets Jurnee; she is overly enthusiastic and Jurnee is somewhat off-put by this. She, Jurnee, and Del go out ice-skating together and have a nice time. Karen quickly endears herself to Jurnee, and the three of them meet up with Hilton at the coffee shop later for hot chocolate. Later, Karen has tea with her mother and talks about the day, noting that she was extremely nervous about it at first but that it went better than she could have hoped for. Her mother urges Karen to tell Del about Gary, her son from a previous relationship, although Karen is reluctant to do so. Karen has passed off Gary as her younger brother to most people. Her mother notes that she will tell Del if Karen does not, putting Karen in an awkward position. Karen confides in Hilton and asks him for advice, and Hilton believes that Del will be able to handle the truth.
Karen chooses to reveal the truth to Del at Hilton and Ruth’s house, and she and Del are greeted by Darien and Erica. Everyone leaves Del alone except for Hilton, who asks him why Karen appealed to him. He notes that she fulfilled all of his criteria for a good relationship, including a lack of “emotional baggage” from previous relationships. At Hilton’s questioning he notes that his list is merely a “structure” and could be disregarded for the right woman. Everyone comes in and Hilton and Ruth try to subtly get Karen to reveal the truth to Del, although this backfires when Darien feels compelled to admit that he recently made an excuse to get out of a bowling night with Erica. Del believes that everyone is getting him to admit the truth about the circumstances of their meeting, and he admits that he deceived her slightly about his initial intentions towards her. Karen finally pulls Del aside and tells him the truth about Gary. He is somewhat angry that she chose to conceal this information from him, more so when he learns that she told Hilton and Ruth before telling him. Seeing that he is upset, Karen decides to leave. Jurnee asks Del to resolve things with Karen, as she has grown to like her. Del and Karen meet again, and Del says that he has had time to think about what she said, and that he has decided he has no qualms about her having a son. They make up and resume their relationship. Commercials deleted.
