COSBY: THE WEDDING (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about Hilton Lucas, who finds himself retired after his job at the airport is eliminated.
The day of Erica’s wedding arrives, and Hilton is sent on errands all across town to make last-minute preparations and to pay the various wedding organizers along the way. Ruth elects to stay behind, convinced that Erica will inevitably suffer an emotional breakdown despite her currently calm demeanor. She reveals to Hilton that she nearly got cold feet about their own wedding despite outwardly appearing to be completely fine. First Hilton visits the caterer and finds that they have been waiting to be paid in order to start working. They also get into an argument about the particulars of the food order, and the caterer attempts to hold up Hilton for more money in order to get everything set up on time. Later Hilton, Ruth, and Pauline meet with Pablo, the wedding photographer, but they find that his ideas for the composition of the wedding photographs are incompatible with what they had in mind. They manage to get him to change his mind by giving him more money, although Ruth takes Hilton’s shoebox of bills aside before paying him.
Ruth still believes that Erica will break down sooner or later and wishes she would get it out of her system. Hilton believes otherwise. Everyone dresses for the wedding, and Pauline and Ruth whisper about how they expect Erica to break at any minute. They attempt to force the issue by coaxing Erica into crying, although they are unsuccessful. Hilton makes some last-minute payments and Ruth still remains convinced that Erica will not be able to compose herself. Erica emerges and Hilton prepares to walk her down the aisle. However, Erica suddenly becomes nervous and has to sit down for a moment, feeling distraught about “the big picture” and the direction her life is taking. Ruth comes back and comforts Erica, saying that her life “fills out in time” and that her life is what she makes of it. Her advice seems to work and Erica allows Hilton to escort her down the aisle. Commercials deleted.
