EIGHT {8} SIMPLE RULES {A.K.A. 8 SIMPLE RULES FOR DATING MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER}: HALLOWEEN (TV)
Summary
One in this series, formerly known as "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter," about the attempts of Paul Hennessy's wife and children to make new lives for themselves following his unexpected death.
The big Halloween dance is coming up, and Bridget, as student body president, is in charge of organizing it. C.J. reveals that he doesn’t like Halloween due to an incident in his childhood where he was publicly humiliated at a Halloween dance. Bridget tries to meet with the student council about the dance, but is continually distracted by another student, Pete, whom she believes has a crush on her. Kerry, as well as the vice president Max, vehemently believes that Bridget is unqualified for the position. C.J. is hired as the head of security for the dance, and takes his position seriously. Bridget decides to prove Max and Kerry wrong and redoubles her efforts, overseeing all preparations. However, she becomes distracted when she learns that Pete has broken up with his girlfriend and wishes to accompany her to the dance. Cate points out that Bridget can be intensely focused when she needs to be, and asks her to think about things in a different frame of mind.
C.J. learns that Rory is planning a prank at the Halloween dance, and takes Jim’s advice: let him go for the time being and then catch him in the act to publicly humiliate him. At the dance, Bridget juggles responsibilities as event coordinator and her attentions toward Pete, and manages to competently run the dance. Meanwhile Jim gets into a conflict with a band of trick-or-treaters after his candy bowl is stolen, culminating in the two sides lobbing eggs at one another. When Pete’s girlfriend arrives at the dance, Bridget is forced to choose between Pete and speaking with the fire marshal, who has just arrived due to safety concerns. Ultimately she chooses to speak to the fire marshal but later ends up kissing Max, who is wearing an identical costume to Pete’s. This makes Max believe that Bridget is attracted to him, enraging both Kerry and Pete.
Jim arrives at the dance, frustrated by his scuffle with the trick-or-treaters. Rory tries to enact his prank, but C.J. catches him and stops him. Just before C.J. can humiliate Rory in front of everyone, Jim and Rory reveal that their true plan was to humiliate C.J., and do so in a similar fashion to what happened to him as a kid. Kerry returns home and admits that the dance was a success, but is frustrated that everything always seems to work out for Bridget. After Kerry and Bridget discuss the matter, Kerry admits that she was wrong about Bridget. However, Bridget confesses that she wouldn’t have succeeded if Kerry hadn’t pushed her so hard. She also notes that despite her best efforts, she wasn’t able to win Pete. Their talk is interrupted when Max arrives in an ill-conceived attempt to serenade Bridget with his clarinet. Includes commercials.
