ALIAS: DETENTE (TV)
Summary
One in this dramatic action series about CIA double agent Sydney Bristow and her adventures with her colleagues and her enemies. In this episode, Vaughn meets with an informant in Russia who tells him that a highly dangerous explosive chemical known as black thorine has been stolen by criminals unknown. Upon returning home, Sydney is angered to find Sloane in her house, and though Nadia explains that her father wants "a fresh start," Sydney reminds her that he cannot be trusted. Sloane tells the group that according to his questionable "sources," the thorine was purchased by an arms dealer, Boris Tambor. They make plans to recover it from him in Monte Carlo, though Dixon notices Sydney's discomfort around Sloane. She explains that she finds it hard to work for the man who killed her loved ones, and Dixon kindly advises her on "making peace" with his presence. Sydney and Nadia visit a gun range and Sydney apologizes for their disagreement, and they soon head off to Monaco to find Boris.
Once there, the team realizes that Boris is not heading for his usual poker table for the night, meaning that they cannot covertly access his hotel room as planned, so Sydney and Nadia befriend Boris' exasperated girlfriend Bridget and secretly clone the man's hard drive while distracting him with chatter. Weiss is particularly impressed with Nadia's stealth and soccer knowledge, wondering how Vaughn would feel about the two of them dating two sisters. Back in Langley, Sloane scolds Nadia and Sydney for going off-book, but Sydney angrily retorts that given his own traitorous actions, he has no right to accuse them of insubordination. Marshall then explains that Boris is selling the thorine on his yacht in the Black Sea within sixteen hours, and though Sloane objects to sending Nadia and Sydney because of their recent rebellious actions, Jack points out that he would do well not to further antagonize his daughter.
Sydney and Nadia board the yacht and prepare to break into Boris' high-tech vault, and Sloane recognizes the buyer as an "old friend" from SD6, Leo Orissa. Bridget then betrays Boris and reveals that she is working with Leo, and Nadia discovers that there is far more than a single vial of thorine in the vault. Sloane asks Sydney to trust him and then sends her to talk to Boris and Bridget, instructing her to use his name to make a deal with them. Sloane reminds Leo through Sydney of his own capacity of great cruelty and the man agrees to his terms, though Bridget quickly shoots him and, after a fight, Sydney kills her as well. Sydney and Nadia talk while waiting for reinforcements, and Nadia admits that she is a better spy now that she is working with a team rather than on her own. Weiss continues flirting with Nadia back at the office, and Sloane informs Sydney that the thorine was successfully recovered. He adds that he has put in a transfer for her, well aware that she hates working with him, but she informs him that while she will never forgive him for his crimes against her, she intends to stay where she is.
