SIX FEET UNDER: BOMB SHELTER (TV)
Summary
One in this series about the Fisher clan, a loving -- if dysfunctional -- family struggling to maintain a sense of normalcy in the face of the stressful day-to-day operations of the eccentric family business, a funeral home in Los Angeles. In this episode, four members of the Gorodetsky family are killed in a car crash, and Brenda suggests to Nate that they should have children, though he states that he wants to "think about it" first this time. Ruth asks George to attend a "Loving Couples" workshop on tantric intimacy with her, though George seems more interested in stockpiling resources for a potential natural disaster. In class, Billy praises Claire's latest photographs, though Russell speaks up and points out that he assisted her with them. Jonathan, the sole surviving Gorodetsky, admits that he knows nothing about his family members' wishes and is at a loss in handling their deaths, and David is shocked to learn that Roger Pasquese, the man with whom he fought at the sushi restaurant, is demanding $500,000 in greatly exaggerated damages. Keith suggests that David is still suffering PTSD from the carjacking, though the lawyer points out that arguing so at a trial will be expensive.
Brenda confesses her sense of guilt about Joe to Margaret, adding that she now understands how Nate could "settle" for Lisa. George gets into a debate with a door-to-door evangelist about humanity's need to "save" itself, and when Ruth catches her smoking, Claire downplays her marijuana habit and asks about George, and Ruth states that their marriage is improving. Rico confronts Vanessa about allowing Kenny's sister Julie to babysit the boys, but Vanessa counters that she requires extra help now that she is a single parent. David panics that Roger's lawsuit will bankrupt them, but Keith points out that their not being legally married is actually an advantage in this case and suggests that they should calmly convince Roger to drop it. David finds that George has filled one of the prep room closets with bottled water for "emergencies," and George is elated to learn that the house has a bomb shelter. Margaret undergoes an emergency hysterectomy and Brenda and Billy come face-to-face for the first time in many months as they attempt to comfort her, though Margaret seems to prefer Olivier's far more blunt reaction. While at a flower show with Anita and Jimmy, Claire confronts Russell about claiming credit for her work in class, though he argues that he was only taking "his share," as he genuinely contributed to the project.
Brenda tells Billy about her hopes to have children with Nate, and he assures her that she will make a good mother. Over dinner, Roger makes it clear that he is interested in Keith, and David and Keith guess that he will drop the lawsuit in exchange for sexual favors. Rico arrives unannounced at Vanessa's home and sends Julie away, and Barb and Hoyt visit Nate to question him about the discrepancies with the ashes and he eventually admits that he obeyed Lisa's wishes and buried her in the desert. Barb is disgusted at the lie, adding that Lisa would hate the idea of "a woman she hated" raising her daughter and that Nate's actions "raise questions" about her death. Keith admits to Roger that he is exasperated with David's unpredictable behavior in the wake of the carjacking, and Vanessa stays out all night with Kenny to make a point to Rico, informing him that she will call the police if he enters her home without permission again. Brenda is frustrated that Nate did not "let her in" by telling the truth about Lisa's burial, and Barb and Hoyt demand that Maya live with them part-time, as Lisa is not "honored" in Nate's home, though he flatly refuses and orders them to leave. Claire is elated when Jimmy's gallery manager decides to include her work in an upcoming show, and George backs out of the workshop as he continues fortifying the bomb shelter. Nate, worried that his future holds "only bad things," tells Brenda that they cannot have a child just now, and David is stunned to learn that Jake has been arrested and that he must identify him to the police.
