BROOKLYN BRIDGE: RAINY DAY (TV)
Summary
One in this dramatic series about a middle-class Jewish family living in Brooklyn, New York, in the 1950s.
In this episode, Nathaniel is disappointed when George cancels the family's trip to the Statue of Liberty, which he's been studying in school, due to torrential rain. To make amends, George suggests that the boys take part in the "rainy day indoor olympics." Meanwhile, Sophie and Jules prepare for a visit from Bernard, the first since he announced that he's getting married.
When Bernard is late, Sophie blames his "gold digger" fiancee Bernice, though she has yet to meet her. Meanwhile, Nathaniel and George are squaring off against Alan, Benny, and Nicholas as Phyllis and Jules start a jigsaw puzzle depicting the Statue of Liberty. Jules is annoyed when the last piece appears to be missing. Later, Bernard arrives at the apartment alone, convinced that Bernice has dumped him. He then joins the boys' games, though George has weathered several injuries.
Soon enough, Bernard is also injured and takes to bed as Sophie nurses him. Suddenly, the electricity goes out. As the family lights candles, Bernice arrives and apologetically recounts how she took the wrong bus and got lost. Sophie chides her anyway and tells her not to hurt Bernard. After dinner, Bernice charms Sophie, inspiring Sophie to tell how she first saw the Statue of Liberty. She's also inspired to give Bernard his mother's engagement ring, which he puts on Bernice's finger.
Finally, Sid bursts into the apartment and announces that the ice cream in his store is melting due to the blackout. He says he's having an ice cream party, charging a penny per scoop, which everyone gladly attends. As Bernard and Bernice leave Sophie's apartment, the electricity comes back on and Bernice finds the final piece of the puzzle. Commercials deleted.
