VERONICA MARS: CLASH OF THE TRITONS (TV)
Summary
One in this drama series which follows the exploits of a seventeen-year-old assistant private investigator intent on solving the town of Neptune's mysteries while simultaneously trying to negotiate the rough-and-tumble world of high school. In this episode, Veronica is summoned to Ms. James' office to discuss her grief over Lilly's death, but she explains that she would prefer use her feelings as "fuel" to find the real killer, covertly planting a microphone on the guidance counselor's desk. Elsewhere, Rick is called to the principal's office and informed that his friend Tim, whom he dropped at the hospital, is now in a coma due to his excessive drinking, and Rick names Veronica as the creator of their fake IDs. Veronica is shocked when a number of blank fake IDs are found in her locker, and she is hauled off to the sheriff's department and suspended. Cliff posts her bail and tells her about Rick's accusation, but Rick tells Veronica that "they" forced him to blame her, saying he cannot speak freely in public. Veronica recruits Wallace to find out who else at school provides fake IDs, and Logan gets into a fight when other students mock his family's current scandal regarding Aaron's stabbing by a jealous mistress. Weevil talks to Ms. James about his anger following Lilly's death as Veronica listens in, and she is surprised to hear that Weevil and Lilly had been involved during one of her breakups with Logan and that he had made her uncomfortable with his intensely passionate letters.
In private, Rick explains that he and Tim were pledging a secret society called the Tritons and were in the middle of their "twelve labors" when Tim passed out from overdrinking. Rick was then told by the Tritons to blame Veronica, but he swears that he now wants to bring them down and gives her the senior members' names, including Duncan Kane. Keith finds out about Veronica's suspension and she quickly explains about the Tritons, but he reveals that Tim's parents are suing everyone involved in their son's misadventure and that she may be liable. Aaron comes to Keith and shows him the many tabloids reporting his story, wondering how they could have acquired various personal photos, and Keith promises to investigate. As Veronica reads up on the mythological Triton, Wallace explains that there is a "mystery locker" at Neptune High in which one deposits a name and $250 and then receives a fake ID, and Veronica decides to set up a camera to see who opens it. Logan tells Ms. James that he and Lilly were temporarily broken up when she died, thanks to Veronica telling her that he had kissed someone else, and he angrily states that he should have been with Lilly on the night of her murder and blames Veronica as well as himself for her death. Wallace receives a shoddy fake ID from the locker, and they follow Duncan to a cheesy karaoke bar, where she demands answers about the Tritons. She gets up and pointedly sings Blondie's "One Way or Another" and is then summoned to the bathroom, but the guy within is a decoy and not the Triton leader.
Rick frets to Veronica that the Tritons know of his betrayal, and Duncan tells Ms. James that he still strongly feels Lilly's presence. He explains that he has stopped taking some of his medications and cannot remember the days surrounding his sister's murder, and Veronica, listening in, wonders what he is taking and why. Veronica is then grabbed by masked figures and thrown into her trunk, and when Wallace frees her, they discover the Tritons' initiation meeting in the school hallway. Veronica photographs the members and then flees, and she finally realizes who framed her. She goes to Lamb and tells him to put the money and a name in the locker to catch his criminal, and calls Rick to report that the guy will soon turn himself in. Elsewhere, Keith tells Aaron the truth about the leaked photos, and at school, Aaron angrily confronts Lynn for betraying him, and she leaves, upset. Rick arrives at the sheriff's office and Veronica accuses him of making the IDs, pointing out that he has the marked $250 in his wallet and explaining how the mystery locker had a false bottom. She adds that he was never really asked to join the Tritons and blamed them for Tim's drinking as revenge, but she is taken aback when he reveals that he framed her because Keith destroyed his father's life as part of an investigation. Veronica gives Duncan the Tritons' photos and promises not to tell, but she continues wondering about his secrets. Elsewhere, Lynn's car is found abandoned on a bridge. Commercials deleted.
