SEX AND THE CITY: MY MOTHERBOARD, MY SELF (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about Carrie Bradshaw, a single Manhattanite who writes a popular sex-advice column for a newspaper while dishing out dating advice and dirt with her three closest friends.
In this episode, the four ladies meet for a "power lunch" and discuss their current lives, with Carrie revealing that she has exchanged house keys with Aidan. Samantha shares a "1,000 Sexual Positions" manual she bought on the street. Later, Carrie returns home to find Aidan cooking, though they soon get romantically distracted. As she writes her column, her computer suddenly crashes and Aidan's attempts to help only make things worse. They hurry to a computer help store, where the tech guy tells them that Aidan's PC techniques are "not compatible" with Carrie's Mac and that they will call her if they recover any information from her hard drive. Carrie calls Miranda and tells her what happened, admitting that she never backs up her files. Miranda reveals that she is in Philadelphia, as her mother has had a heart attack. Carrie quickly offers to help. Elsewhere, Charlotte continues redecorating her apartment and Samantha tries out some suggestions from the sex manual with her latest flame, a very flexible wrestling coach.
Miranda calls Carrie again early in the morning and tells her that her mother died. In shock, she frets that it was sudden and her mother was alone, after which Carrie tries to comfort her. Carrie explains the situation to Samantha and Charlotte at lunch and they are stunned, though Charlotte immediately enters "Martha Stewart" mode and begins making flower arrangements for the funeral. Samantha, however, does not know how to react and ends up calling her wrestler friend, only to find that she cannot enjoy herself as usual. She laments to her friends that she has "lost it," and Carrie tries to encourage her, though Charlotte cautions that she may never get it back. In Philly, Miranda shops for a black dress and bra for the funeral; an aggressive saleswoman tells her she is wearing the wrong size. Miranda is at first annoyed, but then touched and saddened by the woman's motherly behavior, and finally allows herself to be "supported."
Aidan buys Carrie a new laptop, though she seems resistant to the change, and he soon grows upset that she is shutting him out emotionally. Samantha keeps trying to "power through" her problem and eventually gives up in despair. The computer tech calls Carrie and reveals that they could not recover anything from her computer, and she calls Aidan to apologize, saying they need to "reboot." The girls then head to Philadelphia though Samantha still cannot find the words to comfort her friend. Miranda's family, however, seems more concerned with Miranda's lack of a date. Charlotte's flowers turn out to be far less tasteful than she ordered, and the minister muddles the family members' names during the service. However, Samantha finally begins to cry and finds the "release" she needs. Carrie walks with Miranda in the processional, where they see that Aidan and Steve have turned up to support Miranda. Back at home, Carrie writes her column and saves it on a zip drive, reflecting on the need for "backup" and comfort in others. Commercials deleted.
