GIDGET: GIDGET IS A PROPER NOUN (TV)

Summary

One in this series about a California teenager named Frances Lawrence, nicknamed Gidget.

In this episode, Gidget struggles through a challenging English class taught by the humorless Donald Hardy, a former student of her dad's. Hardy assigns the class to write "outdoor observations." Gidget feels that he is "prejudiced" against her and holds her to an unreasonably high standard because of his respect for Professor Lawrence. She decides to prove her point by turning in one of her father's old papers, on which he received an A, and calling Hardy out when he presumably gives her a low grade. Hardy then announces that he'll quote Professor Lawrence's writing in class, causing Gidget to fear that he'll recognize the plagiarized assignment. Gidget quickly recruits Larue to be her lookout as she swaps the paper for one of her own creation.

Frustrated, Gidget confesses her trick to Anne and her father. Professor Lawrence mildly scolds her for trying to be the one to "teach a lesson," telling her that she must accept Hardy's strict approach without his intervention. In class, Hardy instructs Gidget to read out her own, real paper – on which she has received a well-deserved A. He then notes that he would have given her an F on the obviously stolen paper, and admits that he may have pushed her too hard to live up to her father's impressive skills. The two part as friends. Professor Lawrence is later surprised to find that she has opted to be his teacher's assistant. Commercials deleted.
