MY KIND OF TOWN {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

The premiere of this game/variety show which brings 200 people from a small town on television to participate in segments and compete for prizes. This episode’s audience hails from Greenville, Alabama, a town known for smoked turkey sandwiches, its high school football team the Greenville Tigers, and its manufacturing of automobile steering wheels. Host Jimmy Vaughan begins by interviewing Todd Campbell, Greenville’s tallest resident, about his infamously ragged and foul-smelling sandals. Vaughan has Todd immolate the sandals remotely with the assistance of a local Greenville fireman. He also chooses to destroy his tractor, a decision which earns him a prize in the form of a brand-new tractor. The fireman is unable to destroy the old tractor, necessitating the intervention of a giant robot dinosaur. However, the robot dinosaur instead decides to crush Todd’s pickup truck, although Vaughan reveals that it is merely a similar-looking truck. Vaughan presents Todd with the new tractor, along with a new pair of sandals to replace his old ones. Vaughan announces that if local fireman Jason Pouncey can identify a series of people from Greenville by the end of the night the entire audience could win motor scooters. Vaughan interviews another resident, Edna Kelly, whose house apparently disappears from a live satellite feed from Greenville. The house “escapes” and is said to lead local police on a chase. Vaughan reveals that the house has been repositioned on her sister Eugenia’s property by the show’s crew, fulfilling one of Edna’s dreams. In addition, Edna has been given a new television set. Vaughan then presents the “2005 Greenville Naked Calendar,” featuring scenes of a number of residents of the town in the nude. Next, Vaughan hosts a segment concerning the embarrassing hairstyle of one resident, Ginger Norman, when she was a teenager. This part features a video appearance by singer Ruben Studdard singing about Ginger’s hair. Vaughan presents Ginger with a new toilet to replace her broken one, along with a cash prize. Jason receives an inspirational video message from wrestler Hulk Hogan. Members of Greenville Tigers take part in a game of “extreme musical chairs.” Finally, Jason is brought up to see if he can match six random residents of Greenville’s faces to their names. Jason is successful and wins the motor scooters for the Greenville residents. Includes commercials.
