ROSEANNE SHOW, THE {DEBBIE REYNOLDS, DOMINICK DUNNE} (TV)

Summary

One in this interview/comedy series hosted by Roseanne Barr. Barr begins the episode by answering a series of audience questions, touching upon her personal life and social views. The first guest, actress Debbie Reynolds, then sits down with Barr and discusses her role in a 1997 episode of "Roseanne," playing Dan's mentally-ill mother; her wrestling scene with Barr, which resulted in a broken rib; her funny roles in "Mother" (1996) and "In & Out" (1997); her various "miserable marriages" and her kids' demand to approve or veto her next suitor; her determination to pay off her serious financial debt, brought on by one of her ex-husbands; her daughter Carrie Fisher's recent work on a screenplay; and a funny story from Fisher about Reynolds' questionable domestic skills. Reynolds also performs a medley of "Get Happy," "Gee, But It's Good to Be Here" and "I Want to Be Happy."

Next, author Dominick Dunne joins Barr and discusses his awareness of the Monica Lewinsky story long before the scandal broke and why he "never took the story seriously"; his views on Linda Tripp's "betrayal" of her friend's trust in wearing a wire; Elizabeth Taylor's ill health and recent recovery; his hopes for a film adaption of his 1997 novel "Another City, Not My Own," potentially starring Barr; the many "disastrous experiences" suffered by former First Lady Nancy Reagan; his extensive coverage of the O.J. Simpson murder trial and whether the JonBenét Ramsey case will "fill the void" in the public's attention.

Finally, in a comedy segment, Barr interviews "Crystal Lynn Pickett," portrayed by Nora Dunn, who fiercely defends her neighbor Dwayne, dubbed "The Bachelor Butcher" by the press, against accusations that he has committed multiple murders, arguing that he simply "happens to have dated" a number of women who turned up murdered. Barr and several audience members question Pickett about her taste in men, pointing out that she has a habit of falling for criminals and needs to "snap out of it." Includes commercials.
