FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: NO ONE LEFT BEHIND (TV)

Summary

One in this drama series -- based on the 1990 H.G. "Buzz" Bissinger book and 2004 film of the same name -- which follows the Dillon Panthers, a high school football team in small-town Texas. In this episode, Matt makes breakfast for Lorraine as his grandmother begins to understand that Carlotta is gone. Elsewhere, Eric tries to coach Julie on her upcoming driving test though Tami ultimately volunteers to take over. On his way to school, Matt is upset to hear that Smash has been suspended for the remainder of the season. Eric tries to give his team a pep talk in wake of the devastating news. Later in class, Matt acts out by cursing at his teacher. In between classes, Jean confronts Tyra, telling her that she’s romantically interested in Landry and that Tyra should back off. On the field, Kyle asks Smash to do his exercises elsewhere after hearing that Matt has gone home sick. At the Taylors’ house for dinner, Tyra admits that she’s slightly jealous about Jean’s attentions to Landry. Tim sees Matt outside school and the two go to a bar where they won’t get carded. Matt admits how hurt he is about Carlotta dumping him, though Tim drags him to practice anyway. While taking Julie on a driving lesson, Tami asks her daughter if she’s unhappy about her mother being the new volleyball coach. Back at practice, Eric smells alcohol on Matt’s breath and orders him to stop having “fun” on the field. Landry tries to counsel Matt against further drinking episodes, but Matt soon finds himself cavorting with Tim at a strip club. Tami is thrilled when Tyra wins a volleyball game, but later realizes that she forgot to meet Julie at the DMV for her road test. Later, Tami talks the driving instructor into letting Julie take the test anyway. Elsewhere, Smash shows Eric a note saying that his scholarship is being revoked. At home, Smash breaks down in front of his mother. Matt also breaks down after hearing that his grandmother is in the hospital after hitting her head in a fall. Eric goes to the hospital to take Lorraine and Matt home. When Eric is alone with the still-inebriated Matt, he throws him in the shower, at which point Matt tearfully asks what’s wrong with him since everyone leaves him. The next day, Landry breaks up with Jean and drives to Tyra’s house, where he passionately kisses her. Finally, before the Panthers game, Smash gives the team a pep talk, then starts crying when they leave the locker room. Commercials deleted.
