CASHMERE MAFIA: PILOT {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The first in this comedy-drama series about the lives of four high-powered businesswomen and best friends living in New York City. In this episode, Mia Mason is thrilled when her boyfriend Jack proposes marriage, but they then learn that only one of them will be named head publisher at their media company by week's end. Elsewhere, her friend Juliet, COO of a resort chain, deals with sexism in the boardroom, while cosmetics senior vice-president Caitlin breaks up with her boyfriend over breakfast and mergers and acquisitions director Zoe learns that her nanny has quit. The four friends meet up and Mia shares her news, and they are visited by Cilla Grey, who asks Zoe's help in acquiring a pricey penthouse. Mia's friends throw her an engagement party and toast to her happiness with Jack, and the other men offer Jack some advice about marrying a career woman. Juliet tries to find time for romance with her husband Davis, and Caitlin is shocked to find herself attracted to a new advertising representative, Alicia. Zoe tries to juggle work and a nanny-search, and Mia and Jack butt heads as they attempt to secure new clients to land the publisher job.
Caitlin confesses her uncertain feelings to her priest brother, who is supportive, and Zoe and her husband Eric meet with a young woman, Brooke, who drives a hard bargain when they interview her for the nanny job. Eric is uncertain, but Zoe quickly hires her, and she is then shocked to spot Davis and Cilla engaging in an affair. She tells Mia and Caitlin, and they agree that they must tell Juliet the bad news all together. Zoe quickly grows exasperated with Brooke's flighty, hard-partying ways, though Eric, an architect, points out that he may soon land a new job that will require a good deal of travel. While out for drinks, Caitlin is unsure about Alicia's intentions, but Alicia then makes her feelings clear by kissing her. Jack and Mia continue debating about the job, and Jack is frustrated when Mia crashes his golf meeting with an important client. Zoe is forced to work from home when Brooke proves to be highly irresponsible, and the four friends meet up and sit down with Juliet to tell her about Davis and Cilla. Juliet reveals that she already knows about Davis' frequent infidelities, however, and orders her friends not to judge her as she admits that she hates his cheating, but hates the idea of divorcing even more.
The women all head to a glamorous party honoring Juliet's business accomplishments, and Juliet tells Davis that she knows about Cilla and intends to have an affair of her own to balance things out. Zoe leaves the party and sneaks into her daughter's dance recital, where Eric informs her that he has accepted the job after all. Mia's boss Clive informs her that she has won the publisher job, and though he at first congratulates her, Jack admits that he cannot deal with the fact that she has such a high-powered job and calls off the engagement. A saddened Mia updates her friends, who urge her to forget about her non-supportive man, and Juliet has a tense confrontation with Cilla as Caitlin struggles to find a way to share her own surprising news. Mia thanks her friends for their loyalty, and they begin to make plans for Juliet's affair. Includes commercials and promos.
