DO NOT DISTURB: WORK SEX {FIRST SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The first in this comedy series about the lives and exploits of employees of a hotel in New York City.
Behind the scenes at The Inn, a New York City hotel, the employees read a story submitted by an anonymous former employee to Time Out magazine detailing a torrid sexual affair with an unnamed, unidentified current employee. The various employees suspect the culprit to be Neal, the general manager of the hotel with a known history of sexual encounters with his female staff. Rhonda, the hotel’s human resources director, organizes a sexual harassment seminar and tricks Neal into appearing; she and the other employees mock him for his lack of self-control and he is determined to prove them wrong.
A new employee, Tasha, begins to make advances on Neal. Against his nature, he refuses, hoping to prove his self-restraint to Rhonda. Meanwhile, Nicole chafes at her increasing responsibilities as front desk secretary and hopes to rekindle her old modeling career. When Molly offers to help and call her own agency, claiming she has worked as a model, Nicole refuses, assuming she is kidding. Meanwhile, Gus tries to help Larry regain his sexual image in the wake of his relationship with his boyfriend, Victor.
Billy, one of The Inn’s security guard, covertly hits on Rhonda. Despite her admonishment of Neal, she and Billy hold a secret affair with one another. Neal reports to Rhonda about his refusal of Tasha’s advances, but she says that a single good deed is not enough and encourages him to keep up his behavior. Nicole discovers that Molly was being truthful and that she was a model for a plus-sized clothing line. She demands that Molly help her get a modeling job, talking about how her self-esteem will plummet without it.
Neal encounters Tasha once again in the elevator, but this time he succumbs and they go to the basement. However, before he stops himself before he can carry out his tryst, realizing that Rhonda and the others were right about him. He runs into Rhonda and Billy coming out of an electrical closet. They cover up for their activities and chew Neal out for what appears to be his own bad behavior. Neal leaves, incensed. Meanwhile, Gus takes Larry out to a bar to help him start flirting again, but he accidentally does so with Victor’s friend from his yoga class, much to Larry’s discomfort.
Neal confronts Rhonda in her office and coerces her into revealing her affair with Billy via false security tapes. Rhonda confesses the affair and her hypocrisy. Rather than be mad, Neal tells her that she now knows what he feels like and that they understand each other better. Molly’s agency gets Nicole a modeling job portraying methamphetamine addiction. Larry reports to Gus that Victor was angry at first about his encounter in the bar, but that they made up later. The episode ends as it is revealed that Molly was the one detailed in the Time Out story, and that she still carries on her affair with the former employee. Commercials deleted.
