Summary
Tape three of three. Continued from R:21248. A live
broadcast of the Soccer World Cup 1998 second-round
match, Argentina vs. England, from the Stadium St. Denis
in Paris. The game is presented in detail, with
extensive commentary on the players' performance, as
well as interviews with players, journalists, and
audience members about the general soccer environment.
The hosts of the programs are Jorge Ramos, Reynaldo
Barco, Alberto Gambetta, Hern‡n Pereyra, and Alvaro
Riet. The program resumes in overtime. The hosts
comment that both teams seem to have decided to wait
for the penalties, a first in this World Cup. Penalty
kicks are scored by Berti for Argentina and Shearer for
England. Crespo and Ince both miss. Finally, Veron,
Merson, Gallardo, Owen, and Ayala score -- but the last
English kick is missed by Batty, which gives the game to
Argentina at the last minute, with a score of four to
three. The hosts are of the opinion that all of Latin
America has, in fact, won. They commend both teams'
efforts overall and celebrate this victory for
Hispanics. Coverage concludes with a report from Martin
Derby, who gets the first reaction from the Argentinean
team, and a report from Rudy Carpi about a group of
Argentinean fans in southern California. Includes
commercials and promos.
