WORLD CUP 1998: CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: FRANCE VS. BRAZIL {SECOND HALF} {KOSOFSKY ETHNIC RADIO COLLECTION -- SPANISH} (RADIO)

Summary

A live Spanish-language broadcast of the finale of the World Cup 1998 final match, in which France and Brazil compete for the title in Paris. This tape provides a detailed presentation of the second half of the game and the award ceremony afterwards, with extensive commentary on the players' performance. The hosts of the program are Jorge Ramos, Hern‡n Pereyra, Reynaldo Barco, Alberto Gambetta, and Alvaro Riet. As the tape begins, just before the beginning of the second half of the match, France is ahead two to zero, following goals scored by Zinadine Zidane in the first half. The hosts comment on BrazilÕs poor overall performance, attributing it to a lack of creativity in the middle of the field, to Ronaldo's ankle injury, and to excellent tactics on the part of the French team. They express their opinion that Brazil, which started the championship as the favorite, has disappointed fans during the first part of the game. The Brazilian team begins the second half by rebounding a bit. The team achieves quite a few corner strikes and opens up a scoring opportunity for Ronaldo, currently considered the number-one soccer player in the world, but the Brazilians cannot in the end get through the French defense. According to the commentators, the Brazilian players are relying too much on the strengths of individuals instead of teamwork, and France has been able to take advantage of this weakness, thanks to the intelligent strategy of French coach AimŽ Jacquet. The French manage to score again with Emmanuel Petit in one of the last official minutes of the game, minute forty-seven of the second half. The game ends with France ahead in a score of three to zero. The program goes on to transmit the awarding of the World Cup, with the participation of the President of France, Jacques Chirac; the co-organizer, French football star Michel Platini; and the French team captain, Didier Deschamps. Includes commercials and promos. Reaction to the French victory may be found on R:21240.
