PHIL HENDRIE SHOW, THE {LIVE FROM THE MUSEUM OF
TELEVISION & RADIO IN LOS ANGELES} {TAPE 1 OF 3}
(RADIO)
Summary
Tape one of three. One in this comedic radio call-in
series that looks at topical issues through the eyes of
different characters, all of whom are creations of
multi-voiced host Phil Hendrie. This program is a live
broadcast from The Museum of Television & Radio in Los
Angeles as part of the Museum's Radio Festival. The
broadcast opens with a news report covering the
following: the latest on the bombing in Kabul,
Afghanistan, including a report from Steve Harrigan in
Bahgram; the bombing of Red Cross warehouses in Kabul,
including a statement from Red Cross spokesman Mario
Musa; Alan LaGreen's traffic report; Eric Leonard's
report on a city hiring freeze; and Chris Little's
reports on Halloween safety, L.A.'s loss of the bid to
host the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, and the weather.
In this episode, wealthy Los Angeles suburbanite Bobby
Dooley (Hendrie), president of the Western Estates
Homeowners Association, discusses her desire to build a
bio-chemical bomb shelter in her backyard and have the
Homeowners Association pay for it. Dooley argues that
bomb shelters should not be allowed for other
homeowners because they would violate the
architectural standards of the neighborhood, but that
one should be built for her for the following reasons:
she is the president of the Homeowner's Association and
the leadership should be protected, like the President
of the United States; her three exceptional sons must be
protected, because they are in the "line of
succession"; and she needs the shelter because her
husband, who suffers from erectile dysfunction in the
wake of September 11, only feels comfortable having sex
if he is in a "dark hole." Calls from several skeptical
audience members follow. In a break from the show,
LaGreen reports on traffic, and Vicki Moore reports on
anthrax found at the Morgan mail center in New York. In
the next segment, "Coast to Coast" host Art Bell
(Hendrie) talks with General Johnson Jameson (also
Hendrie) who claims that Osama bin Laden has evaded
Special Forces because he is "extra-dimensional" -- able
to make himself invisible and hide in other dimensions.
General Johnson Jameson travels to the seventh
dimension in search of bin Laden only to find an alien,
whom he has sex with. This segment includes two
"commercials" from Art Bell and Peenman Enterprises:
the first for "the rectal inoculating suppository bonus
pack" which immunizes one against "many great
diseases," and the other for "Cosmocilan," a drug which
prevents you from getting "intergalactic clap." Near
the close of the hour, Hendrie takes questions from the
Museum audience about Rod's in Arcadia, a restaurant he
frequents, and how he handles "sad and pathetic callers"
who don't realize that he does all the voices of the
guests. This tape ends with a news update from Vicki
Moore on a recent anthrax discovery on Capitol Hill,
including a statement from homeland security director
Tom Ridge. Includes commercials. Continues with
R:25069.
