LES CARTER WITH FRANK ZAPPA, PT. 1 (RADIO)
Summary
Part one of this three-part program in which progressive rock deejay Les Carter and musician Frank Zappa play recordings of rare rhythm & blues and early rock 'n' roll songs, and discuss a variety of topics. Highlights of this part include: Zappa acknowledges that he built his record collection by buying or stealing cheap albums no one else wanted; Carter does a live commercial for a "black light" poster sale; Zappa complains about the narrow musical tastes of the general public, and provides a cynical reading of a live commercial for a new Mia Farrow film; and the host and guest discuss a variety of teenage rituals and clothing styles from the 1950's and 60's. Music includes: "Rambling Woman" (Big Moose), "No No Cherry" (the Turbans), "Eisenhower Blues" (J.B. Lenoir), "Edna" (the Medallions) and "(We're Gonna) Rock Around the Clock" (Bill Haley and His Comets). Includes commercials and a promo.
