AL "JAZZBEAUX" COLLINS SHOW, THE, PT. 2 {FRED ALLEN}
(RADIO)

Summary

Continued from R:8101. One in this series of music and talk/interview programs hosted by Al "Jazzbeaux" Collins. Broadcast from the basement of the RCA building, this late-night series features Collins playing jazz and blues records, accompanied by his purple Tasmanian owl, Harrison. This program opens with the second half of Collins' interview with Fred Allen. The two men discuss chewing gum, skits from Allen's long-running radio program, and the issue of whether "quality" programming will ever return. Following the interview, Collins talks with William "Count" Basie about jazz and blues; additionally, Collins intersperses portions of Basie's records throughout the program. Two friends of Basie, authors Nat Hentoff and Lou Stein, join Basie and Collins in the studio, and the program closes with an Oscar Peterson tune. Includes a newsbreak with John Wingate and a commercial.
