Summary

One in this series of dramas re-enacting major historical events and covering them as current news stories. This program dramatizes the Battle of Gettysburg, which occurred on July 2, 1863. Highlights of this program include the following events: a review of the recent battles leading up to this day; John Daly reports on the quantity of Confederate artillery and Union cannons at the battle site; Daly talks with privates of the Union Army, who explain why they are fighting; Jackson Beck reports on the Confederates' position on the Peach Orchard; Ken Roberts talks to a Mississippi Confederate prisoner of war, who is confident that the South will win the battle; Beck reports from Little Round Top and gives his observations of the Union retaliation against the Confederates; Don Hollenbeck reports from Union Headquarters on the position of General Meade; and Daly outlines the Confederate formations as they storm Cemetery Ridge and later describes the reformation of the union army as they fight to take back the line. Includes a public service announcement.
