Summary
An unaired demonstration program in this series of dramas reenacting major historical events and covering them as current news stories. This program dramatizes the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865. Highlights of this program include the following events: John Daly reports from Ford's Theatre where he awaits for the arrival of President Lincoln, who is to attend the evening's performance of "Our American Cousin"; Daly speaks with the director of the theater and the President's security guard as he describes the scene about him; President Lincoln arrives and requests that the band play the Confederate song "Dixie"; President Lincoln explains why he attends the theater and takes his seat; parts of the play are heard and a shot rings out; Daly describes the events immediately following the shooting of the President; the assassin is identified as John Wilkes Booth and his escape from the theater is described; Quincy Howe and Ned Calmer report from the CBS studio on the events occurring outside of the theater; Daly reports from nearby the house where President Lincoln is being cared for; a cabinet member describes the dreams and omens President Lincoln had in relation to his death; and comments are made from people around the world, including Queen Victoria, about the tragic event.
