
JAZZ ALIVE: NEW ORLEANS JAZZ AND HERITAGE FESTIVAL '77 (RADIO)
Summary
One in this jazz music series. This jazz program, hosted by Billy Taylor, was recorded at the 1977 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. This program features Roy Eldridge on the trumpet, performing with the Tommy Flanagan Trio, including Flanagan on the piano, Keter Betts on bass, and Bobby Durham on drums. The group performs "Sometimes I'm Happy", "Saint James Infirmary Blues", and "Let Me Off Uptown." Then, singer Ella Fitzgerald joins the Tommy Flanagan Trio in performances of "Too Close For Comfort," "Ain't Got Nothing But the Blues," "Satin Doll," "I Never Knew," and "Feelings." Next, Fitzgerald performs a scat medley, followed by the songs "Like An Ordinary Fool" and "Mr. Paganini." The show closes with Stevie Wonder joining Fitzgerald for a rendition of "You Are the Sunshine of My Life."
