AT&T PRESENTS CARNEGIE HALL TONIGHT (RADIO)

Summary

One in this series of weekly concert programs performed at Carnegie Hall. This broadcast features a recital by soprano Kiri Te Kanawa, accompanied by pianist Martin Katz, recorded on October 27, 1985. Host John Rubenstein and Te Kanawa open the program; Rubenstein announces the works to be performed and Te Kanawa talks about how she chooses and learns new material. Te Kanawa then sings Scarlatti's "Caldo Sangue" and "La Violette." She talks about her recitals, and sings Gluck's "O del mio dolce ardor" from the opera "Paride ed Elene" and Piccinni's "Si le Ciele mi divide" from the opera "Alessandro nelle Indie." She also talks about her early career and her voice teacher, and sings three songs by Mozart -- "Ridente la calma," "Abendempfindung," and "An Chloe" -- and Henry Purcell's "The Blessed Virgin's Expostulation." After Rubenstein recounts some of the finest moments of Te Kanawa's career, she returns to sing her first encore, Marie-Joseph Canteloube's "Malurous qu'o uno fenno." Rubenstein talks about Katz's career before Te Kanawa's second encore, Mozart's "S'altro che lacrime" from the opera "La Clemenza di Tito."
