CAMPBELL PLAYHOUSE: A CHRISTMAS CAROL, PT. 2 (RADIO)

Summary

Continued from R87:0478. Part two of two. One in this series of dramas featuring adaptations of popular and literary classics. Orson Welles plays Scrooge in this adaptation of "A Christmas Carol," the classic Charles Dickens tale of a miser who learns the true meaning of Christmas spirit. As the story continues, the Ghost of Christmas Present shows Scrooge Christmas dinner at the home of his apprentice, Bob Cratchit, as well as other celebrations. The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come shows Scrooge the death of Cratchit's son, Tiny Tim, and his own death. When Scrooge wakes up on Christmas morning, he vows to change his ways and become a better, more charitable person. Welles reads the closing credits and explains that Lionel Barrymore was originally supposed to play Scrooge but was unable to appear. As the program closes, a chorus sings "Sing Hallelujah!" and "Jingle Bells."
