Summary

One this limited dramatic series, an incarnation of "Mercury Theatre on the Air," featuring Orson Welles and the Mercury Theatre Company in adaptations showcasing current and prospective Welles productions on Broadway, as well as literary classics. Welles introduces the program, an adaptation of Alexandre Dumas's novel, "The Count of Monte Cristo." In 1814, a young French sailor, Edmond Dantes (Welles), is arrested on false charges at his wedding and imprisoned for life. Many years later, a dying prisoner gives Dantes a map to a buried treasure on the island of Monte Cristo. When the man dies, Dantes escapes by switching places with the corpse. He returns to France in 1834 as the wealthy Count of Monte Cristo and punishes the men who had him imprisoned. Includes commercials for Pabst Blue Ribbon beer.
