THEY BURNED THE BOOKS (RADIO)
Summary
This drama explores the consequences of the mass burning of books in Germany which began ten years earlier on May 10, 1933. Through the comments of various deceased European writers, this program reveals why it is important that books are cared for and not destroyed or forgotten. Among the writers who comment on their own accomplishments and rally to stop the continual destruction of their works and the human mind are: Friedrich von Schiller, Heinrich Heine, and Samuel Clemens. Through comments made by a member of the Nazi Party, this program also explains why the Nazis wish to erase the history and the freedom of thought of the human race. In addition, this drama imagines what it would be like in the United States if the New Order were to take over the free world.
