JELL-O PROGRAM, THE {THE JACK BENNY PROGRAM}
(RADIO)
Summary
One in this series of comedy/variety programs hosted by Jack Benny. This show opens with Phil Harris and his Orchestra performing "The Fleet's In." Then, the clock is turned back to shortly before the broadcast where Benny and Mary have their usual Sunday night dinner at the drugstore counter across the street. Mary complains she's rather go to the Brown Derby, but Jack's vanity keeps him away from the tony eatery. Also arriving at the counter are Phil Harris, Virgil Reime, Dennis Day, and Don Wilson; and Jack becomes incensed when he overhears Virgil calling him a slave-driver. Next, The orchestra the performs "The Jersey Bounce"; and Jack feigns surprise when Wilson brings up Benny's new movie -- which Jack had earlier insisted he plug. Later Dennis Day sings, "I Remember You"; Mary and Jack perform in a humorous Jello-O commercial/sketch about a couple who live in cabin in on the edge of the Mojave who receive a visit from a lost, starving prospector (Day); Jack discusses his no-frills railroad reservations for the cast, who will travel to San Francisco for next week's show; and Benny's valet, Rochester calls to tell his boss that Carmichael, Benny's polar bear, has come out of hibernation -- and the gas man seems to be missing. Includes commercials. (This series aired on NBC-Blue from 1934-1936; and continued on NBC-Red from 1936-1942.)
