LORETTA YOUNG THEATRE: WOODLOT (TV)
Summary
One in this anthology series hosted by Loretta Young. In this episode, Eugene is walking home, thinking about the importance of his wife Ann and his best friend Dick in his life. He walks through his front door to discover Dick and Ann in each other's arms. Gene leaves the house before they see him. Angry and frustrated, he walks off down the road, castigating himself for having trusted Dick and imagining scenarios in their affair. Soon Gene hears Dick zooming down the road in his car. Dick takes a dangerous curve too fast -- and tumbles off the edge of the road into a quicksand swamp. Instinctively, Gene runs to help but then has second thoughts about saving the life of the man who betrayed him. Gene grows more and more bitter as he remembers past times spent with Dick and Ann. Suddenly, however, Gene rethinks his decision to let Dick drown in the swamp. He decides to do all he can to save the life of his friend. He runs back to the sight of the accident but is unable to pull Dick to safety. Doc Simmonds drives by and upon examining Dick's body discovers that Dick died of a broken neck before he hit the swamp. Gene is relieved that the blame for Dick's death does not fall on his shoulders, but he still feels disgusted with Ann. He walks into the house and is surprised when Ann confronts him with a story that changes his perspective on both his wife and his friend.
