RAW FOOTAGE FROM ABC THEATRE: CEREMONIES IN DARK
OLD MEN (TV)
Summary
Raw footage from one in this series of irregularly scheduled dramas. This Lonne Elder III play, which was originally broadcast on Jan. 6, 1975, is about an African-American family, the Parkers, that run a barbershop in Harlem, New York. This unedited footage features variations on the following scenes: Theo complaining to his father, Russell Parker, about his lack of help in the shop, before his father talks about his time on a chain gang -- which son Bobby disputes -- as well as when he performed in vaudeville; Mr. Jenkins arriving, ranting about crime boss Blue Haven and how he wants his money out of the "racket" before Parker convinces him to stay and play some checkers; Jenkins and Parker play checkers, betting twenty dollars and trash-talking through the entire match, as Bobby watches; Parker and Jenkins heading out to meet Blue Haven as Theo stays behind; Blue Haven giving Parker and Jenkins their money before Jenkins decides to quit the crime racket; Blue Haven arriving at the shop, demanding to see "the books"; a drunk Parker and Jenkins returning to the shop late at night, where Parker complains about being an old man with almost no money in his pocket and no woman to love since his wife's death, then discussing his two sons over yet another game of checkers -- which he finally wins; Theo and Parker's daughter Adele arriving at the shop to receive money before Parker talks about loving his wife, as well as his life's failures; and Parker doing a drunken tap dance before falling, then questioning the whereabouts of Bobby with dawning horror.
