Summary

One in this series of variety programs presided over by host Ed Sullivan. Highlights from this program, broadcast live from Television City in Hollywood, include the following: Duke Ellington and his orchestra play "A Flashback from the Future" as well as a medley of jazz classics; The Hardy Family, a troupe of acrobats, perform a variety of balancing tricks; the Smothers Brothers do a variation of their "Mom always liked you best" routine; Sullivan announces that Los Angeles Mayor Samuel W. Yordy and Broadway actor Dave Chasen are in the audience; Manuela Vargas and her Spanish dancers perform flamenco dances; comedian Myron Cohen does a stand-up comedy routine; Helen Hayes performs the final monologue from "Harriet," a play about Harriet Beecher Stowe; and Richard Pryor recreates all the performances of his elementary school's production of "Rumpelstiltskin." In a prerecorded segment, Herman's Hermits perform "Just a Little Better" and "Jezebel." Includes commercials and promos. (This is a black-and white copy of a color telecast.)
