ROUTE 66: LIZARD'S LEG AND OWLET'S WING (TV)
Summary
One in this series of dramas about the adventures of two young men who travel across the country in a Corvette. In this episode, Tod and Buz get jobs as convention liaisons for a Chicago-area inn. Buz is assigned to assist a group of young women, members of an executive secretary's association, while Tod must make arrangements for a mysterious group of men trying in vain to go incognito: Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre, and Lon Chaney, Jr. Buz immediately falls for a beautiful but slightly dim secretary, who is completely preoccupied with her love for another man. Meanwhile, Tod learns that the three actors are meeting to discuss plans to form a production company that will make TV horror movies in which they will star. However, there is one problem: Karloff feels that these new films should be different from the old ones -- more sophisticated and cerebral -- while Lorre and Chaney believe that old-fashioned monster movies are just as effective as ever. Tod helps Lorre and Chaney prove their point to Karloff, terrifying the inn's guests in the process; and the insightful Karloff helps unite the pining secretary with the man she loves.
