DISNEY SUNDAY MOVIE, THE: GREAT MOMENTS IN DISNEY ANIMATION (TV)
Summary
One in this series of Disney shows for families presented under the umbrella title "The Disney Sunday Movie." This program, a collection of clips from dozens of Disney films, opens with a brief introduction from Carol Burnett before quickly moving on to highlights from "Pinocchio" and "Alice in Wonderland." Burnett then introduces a number of short segments, each of which deals with a particular aspect of Disney's influential and successful formula.
In the first section, she talks about her lifelong appreciation for Disney's slapstick personification of inanimate objects, but she soon moves on to a discussion of Disney's pioneering work in the media format of mixing animation with live actors. Footage from "Mary Poppins," "Song of the South," and "Tron" is shown. Burnett then confesses that Disney movies always made her want to learn to fly, introducing a clip from her own sketch-comedy program which features her parody performance of "Peter Pan." That clip is followed by footage from Disney's "Dumbo" and "The Sword and the Stone." During a segment explaining the process of animation, a clip of an early version of "Alice in Wonderland" is used -- featuring Mickey Mouse in the role of Alice.
Next comes a long segment devoted to Disney's musical efforts. Clips from the songs "Heigh-Ho" ("Snow White"), "Give a Little Whistle" ("Pinocchio"), and "He's a Tramp" ("Lady and the Tramp") are screened. Burnett then talks about Disney's many memorable villains and heroes. In the program's final segment, she discusses the company's future plans, which include working more in depth in the world of computer animation. She also runs clips from recent Disney offerings: "The Black Cauldron," "Where the Wild Things Are," and "The Great Mouse Detective." Includes commercials and promos.
