WALTONS, THE: THE ACHIEVEMENT {FIFTH SEASON FINALE} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of dramas about the Waltons, a large, close-knit family living in rural Virginia during the Great Depression and World War II. In this episode, John-Boy learns what the publishing world thinks of the novel he spent five years writing. He travels to New York City to see whether he can discover the status of the manuscript he sent to a well-known publisher, and he is very discouraged when he discovers that no one has even read it yet. Through some good luck he wrangles an interview with editor Belle Becker, who promises to read his submission over the weekend, and he finds himself in New York for a few more days with little money. His homesickness and loneliness pass for a while when he looks up an old friend who is trying to break into show business, but he becomes anxious again once his meeting with the editor arrives. Thankfully, Belle agrees to publish his book, and he returns home triumphant. Meanwhile, Elizabeth develops an interest in reading when she comes across a detective book by Edith Katherine Herbert. John Boy promises to look up the author while he is in New York but learns some discouraging news in the process. Sadness mingles with joy as John-Boy tells his family that he has decided to move to New York for good. Commercials deleted.
