
LAND OF THE TIGER: A NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC SOCIETY SPECIAL (TV)
Summary
One in this occasional series of nature specials, presented by The National Geographic Society. This documentary concerns the untamed tigers who live and hunt in the pristine Kanha and Ranthambhor National Parks of India. Topics include the dwindling number of tigers; their varying habitat, alternating between scorching heat and monsoons; the high grass and vegetation that provide camouflage; tigers' success rate as predators; their prey, including deer, monkeys, bisons, and birds; tigers' foes, including the adult Indian wild dog and the Indian bison; and the hostility between a feline's young and territorial male tigers. Includes footage of hunting and nurturing rituals; the mating rituals of a tiger and tigress; and a fierce, protective feline guarding and nursing her young. (This program is closed-captioned.)
