HILL STREET BLUES: SANTACLAUSTROPHOBIA (TV)

Summary

One in this series of police dramas about the personal and professional lives of the officers of Hill Street Station, a precinct located in a run-down urban area. In this episode, the Christmas spirit is absent from the precinct as the cops try to stop a string of violent attacks by a gang of thugs. Meanwhile, Belker is working undercover, dressed as Santa Claus, in order to look for pickpockets, but a kid on the street begins pestering him. Also, Hill's vagabond father drops by the precinct, claiming he wants to spend Christmas with his son, but Hill senses that money is the motive for his visit. And Washington struggles to recover emotionally from a shooting he was involved in, which killed an innocent bystander. Just as Hill expected, his father has skipped out of paying a hotel bill and has disappeared. Washington, meanwhile, tries desperately to rid himself of his guilt, but the wife of the victim refuses to accept any apology or gift. As the cops dress up in Christmas outfits for a charity function at the children's hospital, Hill's father returns and asks for some travelling money. Relenting, Hill gives him the money, hoping he will rid himself of his low-life father. Ultimately, Washington's inner turmoil reaches crisis proportions, and, once the charity event is over, a call comes in over the radio about the suspects in the string of attacks. Commercials deleted. Cataloging of this program made possible by Bell Atlantic, Inc., 1998.
