READING RAINBOW: THE BIONIC BUNNY SHOW {BEHIND THE SCENES WITH: STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION} {FIFTH SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of educational children's programs that encourages children to read, hosted by LeVar Burton. This program focuses on the making of television programs and features a behind-the-scenes look at "Star Trek: The Next Generation." The program also features the book "The Bionic Bunny Show," by Mark Brown and Laurene Krasny Brown and read by Gene Klavan, concerning the creation of a television show about a bionic bunny superhero. Burton goes behind-the-scenes with the cast and crew of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," a science fiction program on which Burton portrays Lt. Geordi La Forge. Burton discusses the different stages of production that a program goes through before the finished product is broadcast; some of those stages include makeup, script and blocking rehearsals, the setting up of technical equipment, final preparations for actors, and the shooting of each scene from several camera angles. Burton also defines different types of camera shots, including master shots, close-ups, and reaction shots. Additionally, Burton meets with Robert Legato, visual effects supervisor of "Star Trek: The Next Generation"; at The Post Group, a post-production editing house, Legato and others discuss film editing and the ways that certain special effects are created, such as the transporter beam effect. Burton also visits the post-production facility Image G, where a model of the Starfleet Enterprise is kept. As the program concludes, three children recommend three books about the making of television programs. Includes appearances by actors Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Marina Sirtis, Michael Dorn, and Denise Crosby.
