GARRY MOORE SHOW, THE {JULIE ANDREWS, ROY CASTLE} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of musical variety programs hosted by Garry Moore. This program opens with a musical production number that spoofs the British fox-hunting set. Highlights of this program include the following segments: Roy Castle impersonates a variety of instruments, gets carried away as he performs a song, talks about dancing at the Savoy, and demonstrates his tapping skills; Julie Andrews introduces the song "Love, I Hear" from "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," which is scheduled to open on Broadway the following week; "Camera on America" takes a look into the future by interviewing a dizzy female pitcher (Carol Burnett), who discusses the paucity of women in baseball and demonstrates her unique windup; Andrews and Castle teach Burnett how to talk like a cockney (later in the sketch Burnett makes a reference to the upcoming movie "My Fair Lady"); and "That Wonderful Year" flashes back to 1947 and features a mini version of the hit musical "Finian's Rainbow." Songs include the following: Julie Andrews and Roy Castle sing "Something Sort of Grandish"; Garry Moore and Carol Burnett perform "When I'm Not Near the Girl I Love"; Andrews sings "How Are Things in Glocca Morra?"; Burnett sings "Necessity"; Roy Castle performs "Old Devil Moon"; Durward Kirby sings "If This Isn't Love"; Marion Lorne sings "Look To the Rainbow"; and the company concludes with "That Great Come and Get It Day". In addition, Marion Lorne meets a leprechaun (Moore) and makes three wishes. Includes commercials.

(This series originally aired on weekday afternoons on CBS from 1950 to 1958 and was briefly an evening series under the title "The Garry Moore Evening Show" in 1951.)
