VLADIMIR POZNER: NOT YOUR AVERAGE RUSSIAN: THE POZNER FILE (TV)
Summary
Narrated by Alex Chadwick, this public affairs special
about the noted Soviet journalist Vladimir Pozner
examines his attempts to improve American public
opinion about the Soviet Union and looks at his role as
a media liaison between the superpowers. Pozner
discusses his background and beliefs -- pointing out
that his family was forced to move from country to
country because of prejudice and intolerance toward
their Russian heritage -- and he several times defends
Soviet policies. Among those discussing Pozner's
television appearances are leading media coach Arnold
Zenker; Alex Beam, former Moscow correspondent for
Business Week magazine; and Marshall Goldman, head of
Harvard University's Russian Resource Center. Footage
of his trip back to New York City in 1983 is shown,
including a clip of his appearance on "The Donahue Show"
and clips of his visits to two American schools, City
and Country School and Stuyvesant High School. Other
clips include his appearances on "ABC News Nightline,"
his "Spacebridge" live simulcasts between the Soviet
Union and various U.S. cities, and the "ABC News:
Viewpoint" program in which Reed Irvine, head of
Accuracy in Media, accuses Pozner of lying.
Cataloging of this program was made possible by a grant
