CBS STORYBREAK: HANK THE COWDOG (TV)

Summary

One in this series of animated adaptations of children's books hosted by Bob Keeshan, better known as "Captain Kangaroo." In this presentation, a cowdog named Hank learns that sometimes a dog can get blamed for things that are not his fault no matter how hard he tries to convey the truth about the situation. Hank's job is to protect the ranch and guard against chicken killers. Unfortunately, Hank's only assistant is a young dog named Drover whose cowardliness forces Hank to be on duty twenty-four hours a day. It seems that whenever Hank falls asleep, which he inevitably must do, a chicken is murdered. Hank attempts to investigate the situation by examining one of the dead chickens for clues. However, just as he is doing so, the owners of the ranch appear and see Hank with the dead bird in his mouth. Naturally, they assume he is responsible for the chicken's death. Hank realizes that he will be locked in a kennel for a crime he did not commit, so he decides to run away and become an outlaw. He hooks up with a crowd of coyotes who eventually ask him to help them raid the ranch and kill all of the chickens. Hank finds he must choose between his duty to protect the ranch and his loyalty to his newfound friends. Commercials deleted.
