MUSEUM OF BROADCASTING SEMINAR SERIES, THE: A CONVERSATION WITH STEVEN BOCHCO {LONG VERSION}

Summary

One in a series of seminars conducted by The Museum of Television & Radio, known at that time as The Museum of Broadcasting. This seminar honors television producer and writer Steven Bochco.

Museum president Robert M. Batscha opens by recalling the success of an earlier seminar with Bochco. He goes on to introduce a tape of highlights from Bochco's career, including segments from "Columbo," "Hill Street Blues," "L.A. Law," and "Hooperman."

After the screening, Batscha welcomes Bochco to the stage, and the audience is invited to ask questions. In his responses, Bochco covers the following topics, among others: his relationship with Michael Kozoll, with whom he created "Hill Street Blues"; the genesis of the idea for "L.A. Law"; the authenticity of his programs; his thoughts on writing for film; the casting of John Ritter on "Hooperman"; the writing team on "L.A. Law" and how it functions; the trajectory of Bochco's career; Bochco's experience writing for his wife, Barbara Bosson, on "Hill Street Blues"; his pleasure in doing "Hill Street Blues"; the audience of "L.A. Law" versus that for "Hill Street Blues"; and the recent writers' strike.
