MOONLIGHTING: A TRIP TO THE MOON {FOURTH SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

One in this comedic private detective series about Maddie Hayes and David Addison of the Blue Moon Detective Agency. In this episode, Maddie is plagued by doubts about the future of her relationship with David. Her feelings manifest themselves as black-and-white dream sequences which recreate the television sitcom "The Honeymooners," starring Maddie and David as Alice and Ralph Kramden, and Agnes Dipesto and Richard Addison as Trixie and Ed Norton. In the dream, "Alice" asks "Ralph" where the relationship is going, leading to a heated argument. Maddie awakens, agitated and unhappy, and tells David that she is concerned their relationship is mainly sexual. Revealing a well-guarded secret, David surprises Maddie by announcing to the Blue Moon staff that he has fallen in love with her. He decides to ask Maddie out on an old-fashioned date and behave as if they are having a relationship, not just an affair. Maddie reluctantly accepts David's invitation, but then both wonder if they are not making a mistake. Each receives a bit of "personal counseling" -- Maddie talks with Dr. Joyce Brothers, who appears in her dressing room mirror, while David listens to singing legend Ray Charles, who pops up in his living room with a piano and back-up singers. The date ends abruptly, however, when the couple has a fight in Maddie's driveway, so David stages an elaborate, ridiculous act to coerce Maddie back out of her house. They finish their date -- and maybe their relationship -- at an all-night laundromat, where they end up dancing to Muzak. Commercials deleted.
