AMERICAN PLAYHOUSE: LOVE AND OTHER SORROWS (TV)
Summary
One in this dramatic anthology series. Based on Harold Brodkey's short story "First Love and Other Sorrows," this program is about a teenage boy, Ben, living in St. Louis during the 1950's, who experiences his first adult lesson about the vagaries of love. While Ben begins experiencing his own awkward fascination with girls, he becomes a spectator in the active social life of his older sister. He becomes frustrated and confused, however, when his mother, a widow with her own fixed ideas about the role of love in marriage, begins to pressure his beautiful sister to marry one of her wealthy suitors, while his sister confesses to Ben her fears about ignoring love for security.
