episodeÕs guests are co-founder and editor of Ms.
magazine Gloria Steinem, pop singer Regina, world
champion Olympic skier Suzy Chaffee, comedian Barry
Sobel, and fitness expert Kathy Smith. First Gloria
Steinem joins Lauer and Rappaport in a discussion of Ms.
magazineÕs thirteen women of the year. Steinem
explains the criteria for selecting women of the year,
comments on the Ms. Simone de Beauvoir international
award, and discusses the achievements of Ms. award
recipients Sharon Gless, Tyne Daly, and Dolly Parton.
Next, Regina performs her hit single "Baby Love."
Champion skier Suzy Chaffee, creator of the exercise
video "Ski Workout: Shape Up to Ski," then talks about
her severe knee injury and her recovery, after which she
leads Lauer and Rappaport in a series of exercises
designed to prepare them for the ski slopes. Barry Sobel
then takes the stage and performs a stand-up comedy
routine that begins with a mock rap performance; he
covers subjects such as Neil Simon's plays and the
stereotypes offensive to liberals. A gossip segment
follows in which Rappaport and commentator Richard
Johnson discuss rumors about Jack NicholsonÕs
illegitimate son, the behavior of avid Warren Beatty
fans, Lauren Bacall's reputation, and the nightclub
Nell's. Regina then returns to sing "Head On," after
which she comments on her nine-year music career and
the comparisons made between her sound and that of
Madonna. Finally, fitness expert Kathy Smith speaks
about the need for young people to be active and fit,
and she leads a local Brownie troop in a series of
exercises. Commercials deleted.
