Summary
One in this dramatic anthology series. In this unique program that mixes documentary footage with historical recreation, an actor struggles to portray Sandburg in the one man show, "An Evening with Carl Sandburg," and decides to learn more about the man behind the words. The actor travels to some of the places Sandburg lived, including Connemara Farms, and interviews such people as author Helga Sandburg Crile, Sandburg's daughter; author Paula Steichen Polega, Sandburg's granddaughter; poet Archibald MacLeish; Martin Sandburg, Jr., Sandburg's nephew; Paul Shyre, writer of this program; and Perry Miller Adato, director of this program. Throughout the show, actors recreate portions of the poet's life, and the program concludes with Cullum's portrayal of Sandburg reading poetry and singing folk songs at a lecture at Bryn Mawr college. The documentary segments include black-and-white archival footage. Includes a promo.
