TWIN PEAKS: EPISODE 28: MISS TWIN PEAKS & EPISODE 29: BEYOND LIFE AND DEATH {SECOND SEASON FINALE} (TV)
Summary
One in this drama series that reveals David Lynch's sinister, surreal portrait of small-town life. In this two-part season finale, Agent Cooper deciphers a map that leads him to the Black Lodge. With Leo and Major Briggs shackled in his cabin, Windom Earle sets his sights on the Miss Twin Peaks Pageant -- where Shelly and Annie are among the entrants. Meanwhile, Leo helps Major Briggs escape with instructions to "Save Shelly." Audrey, still lamenting the loss of her relationship to John, is goaded by her father into belatedly entering the pageant. Windom Earle, listening in on Agent Cooper via a bugged bonsai tree, gets to hear his privileged thoughts on Josie's death, the Black Lodge, and Bob -- leading to his own "eureka" moment. Agent Cooper, Harry, and Andy continue trying to crack the mysterious Owl Cave petroglyph, with Agent Cooper certain that it holds the key to the location of the Black Lodge. Agent Cooper and Annie also take their relationship to the next level. Major Briggs ultimately finds his way back to the sheriff's station, where he an offers some enigmatic information to Agent Cooper and Harry. After Andy helps crack the petroglyph, with a misguided belief that it relates to the 4-H Club, Agent Cooper determines when and where the Black Lodge will be accessible. Part one culminates at the beauty pageant, with Windom Earle infiltrating the proceedings in a Log Lady guise and kidnapping Annie after she becomes the newly-crowned Miss Twin Peaks.
Part two includes the following highlights: Margaret and Ronette verify that a malodorous oil opens "a gateway" associated with Laura's death; Windom Earle leads Annie to a circle of trees and they vanish behind a curtain; Nadine awakens from a head injury and resumes her old identity, thus ending her life as a teenage wrestling champion, much to the dismay of Mike, Ed, and Norma; and Donna is anguished, having learned that Ben is her biological father, prompting Will, in a fit of rage, to assault Ben. Meanwhile, Agent Cooper reaches a pool of malodorous oil encircled by sycamore trees and slips into the Black Lodge. Observing as the situation unfolds, a shocked Harry decides to wait for Agent Cooper's return. In the purgatorial Black Lodge, an elderly gentleman hauntingly sings "Sycamore Trees" as a dwarf dances under a strobe light. Meanwhile, in an act of civil disobedience, Audrey chains herself to a bank vault to protest the Ghostwood Estates' impact on the environment; Andrew and Pete, with the help of an exceedingly slow bank clerk, use a mysterious key to open a deposit box, but their efforts backfire. At the Double R diner, Shelly and Bobby ponder Leo's whereabouts, when Dr. Jacoby enters with Sarah, who is channeling a psychic message from Agent Cooper. In the Black Lodge, the dwarf, the giant, and Laura speak in distorted sentences, and Agent Cooper explores a maze of zigzagged floors and red curtains, discovering demon-eyed versions of Laura, Maddy, Leland, Annie, and Windom Earle's dead wife. When Agent Cooper offers to give Windom Earle his own soul in exchange for Annie's life, Bob thwarts the deal; Agent Cooper is then chased by his own doppelganger. Harry witnesses a daring rescue, but a foreboding presence rears its ugly head after the two return to the Great Northern. Includes commercials. This program is closed-captioned.
