THIRTYSOMETHING: MELISSA IN WONDERLAND (TV)

Summary

One in this series of dramas about the personal and professional dilemmas confronting a close-knit group of friends -- urban baby boomers in their thirties -- living in Philadelphia. In this episode, Melissa travels to Hollywood to work on a photo essay about Bree Ann Pratt, the star of a situation comedy about a woman who happens to be similar to Melissa. Melissa assumes that she will detest everything about the West coast, but circumstances cause her visit to be very different from what she expected. While watching a rehearsal for the sitcom, Melissa makes a suggestion that Bree Ann really likes. As they get to know each other better, Bree Ann asks Melissa for advice about the character more frequently, much to the chagrin of the "professionals" on the set. Warren, who is Melissa's journalist partner for the article, is upset since he is unable to get any information from Bree Ann for his story. Melissa reveals embarrassing information about Bree Ann's past to Warren, and he leaks the information. Melissa finds that the "Hollywood mentality" is much more convoluted than she suspected, for she discovers that Bree Ann secretly wanted the scandalous information published in order to let the truth be known about her former indiscretions. When the assignment is over, Melissa learns some things about herself that she never knew before, and she misses being part of a group of strangers who think she has tremendous insight. Commercials deleted.
