PLAY FOR TODAY: SCHMOEDIPUS (TV)
Summary
One in this dramatic anthology series. Here author Dennis Potter reworks his visitation theme to explore the emotional bonds between mother and son ("Oedipus, Schmoedipus, what does it matter so long as the boy loves his mother"). A stranger named Glen (Curry) arrives on the doorstep of middle-aged Elizabeth Carter (Cropper) and claims to be the illegitimate son she gave away at birth. Elizabeth accepts his story, subconsciously hoping to relieve the guilt and shame of her teenage pregnancy. Potter reworked the same idea into the 1988 feature film "Track 29."
